The Power of Small Conversations Overview
The Power of Small Conversations is a national initiative of the National Council of Jewish Women of Canada (NCJWC), a Jewish non-profit organization established in 1897 and is Canada's oldest Jewish women's organization. Funded by the Government of Canada, the program brings together small groups of diverse Canadians for facilitated conversations about antisemitism, hatred, and their impact on individuals and communities.
Conversations can take place anywhere in Canada, either online or in person, and bring together 8–12 participants for respectful and meaningful dialogue. Moderators and storytellers receive specialized training through NCJWC. Volunteers are provided with templates and guidance including but not limited to conversation guides and supports, story development and coaching, invites and follow up templates. Each 90-minute conversation is co-facilitated by a trained moderator and storyteller and follows a set structure. The storyteller shares a personal experience of antisemitism and hatred in Canada, which serves as the foundation for participant discussion.
The Power of Small Conversations is offered across Canada, and we are seeking volunteers to help bring these conversations to communities nationwide. We welcome those interested in serving as hosts, moderators, storytellers, or participants to join us in creating spaces for dialogue, understanding, and connection.
Sign up here if you are interested in being a storyteller, moderator or host.
If you are interested in learning more about this project or if you are interested in participating in one of the conversations in your local community, please email us at PSC@ncjwc.org.
